What's new with Drupal 8?

Since the last Drupal 8 Core Update, 8.0.0-beta13 and 8.0.0-beta14 were released, work started on the Drupal 8 User guide, Code Drop and PreviousNext merged, and Holly Ross gave a summary of the latest Drupal Association board meeting.

Some other highlights of the month were:

  • The markup for comments, drop-buttons and the contextual links component in Bartik were cleaned up. Also, classes needed by the javascript on forms were prefixed with js-.

  • Tom Wentworth from Acquia talked about why Drupal 8 is the most important product release in history on the Modules Unraveled Podcast, Nick Massa at Echo & Co. talked about why it’s wise to wait to use Drupal 8, and Jeff Geerling at Midwestern Mac, LLC wrote about launching Drupal 8 on a Raspberry Pi cluster in his basement

  • As part of an ongoing meta-issue, most Drupal-to-Drupal migrations pertaining to particular modules were moved into those modules.

  • Documentation was improved in a number of places, including hook_update_N(), field_ui JavaScript, Database connections, and Config save/delete/rename events.

  • Amitai Burstein at Gizra explained visual regression tools, while M Parker from OpenConcept Consulting Inc. wrote an overview of software testing.

  • Translatable menu links names from YAML files are now handled more securely, the twig template cache now avoids race conditions, and Drupal 8 will once again work without Apache's mod_rewrite.

  • Lee Rowlands from PreviousNext wrote a tutorial on overriding services in Drupal 8.
